Despite having made plenty of friends online (not on dating sites) I was a bit weirded out by the judgMENTAL lunacy of online dating. But once you get over that and realise everyone's in the same boat, it becomes much easier and even fun - and an incredible boost to the self-esteem (this fillip cannot be stressed enough).

I found the simplest way to deal with it was to ignore the whole "our computer has decided these people are PERFECT for you, based on a bunch of shallow bullshit you filled in very quickly" and just check out who's online at the same time as you - in other words, treat it exactly like walking into the pub and looking around to see who's cute :-)

I didn't realize you had paid Masonic Boom... I thought we were on the same boat as far as not wanting to ever pay for online dating goes. But I didn't revive this thread to complain that many sites make you pay. I revived it to find more free dating sites.

Most recently I have used PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, and Mingle2.. I might try yahoo personals again. Facebook and Myspace have been pretty crap for finding dates - since that's not their main purpose.

I found 3 pretty decent free dating sites, I'm not complaining about that. I'm just wondering if there is more.
