BLT with avocado

Day one of this year's RRFest -- walked downtown and checked out all the food vendors, had some deep fried alligator. Texture of pork tenderloin, flavor was a cross between pork and catfish. I'd had gator before, but not in about 20 years.

Steak fingers, goddamn.

Seriously.

Falafel and hummus, which I know is kind of redundant.

I haven't had gator in years now. I've never successfully cooked with it, I don't think - partly because I went through this flurry of trying to cook with turtle and gator when I first moved to New Orleans, which mostly meant a lot of chewy chili. Shit, now I have a goal.

I wonder if turtle populations are stable. The turtle soup I had at Brennan's in 1986 was wonderful.

Turtle I can cook. I never end up playing with it much because I just want turtle soup, which is kind of a shame - it would probably be good in adobo. Or tacos, even. (The chili would've fine if I had understood braising better.)

I'd walk downtown for a turtle taco. (It's only four blocks.)

I'm at the Everyone's a Talking Hot Dog part of Lent where I start thinking about meat feasts I can concoct in May. I still have a big bag of transglutaminase, it may be time to do chicken-fried steak again (well there we go - steak fingers goddamn).

I guess I can't count turtle as seafood or I'd thaw the leftover turtle soup.

-whole wheat oatmeal bread
-roasted sesame tofu
-sauteed kale and red onions

took a LONG walk to get a delicious (but damn expensive) salad of romaine, chickpeas, roasted chicken, grapes, feta, fresh mint, and tahini dressing. nommmmm.

Milk only

Another fucking po'boy -- chicken thighs braised in smoky pork stock. In general I'm in love with my own cooking anyway, but this was OH SHIIIIIIIIT next-level good.

ham on rye with hot peppers. not such a good idea 15 minutes after two large cups of coffee.

Veggie burger on sprouted wheat bread. Salad. Fruit salad.

I am trying to be good today after eating my weight in lobster rolls, fried clam strips and ice cream over the weekend.

fucking brown + white rice with duck cooked in duck stock with some saffron and garden peas. give peas a fucking chance.

this was a leftover deal from the roast duck with morello cherry which I will rep for. Good shit when they inevitably have cheap as fuck (and big!) ducks left from the christmas sales that you have deep freeze space for.
