So our weekend is an hour longer. Nice.

Seeing enough garage rock to kill a mule.

Probably going you-know-where on Friday night. Haven't decided yet on the rest.

in NYC, I'm going to the FMU Record Fair then to see Warhol's Chelsea Girls.

Going to yoga at 9 am on Saturday with Jessifer and Jourtney. I haven't made any other plans.

Were there any takers on a potential Saturday night karaoke outing? Hmm?

I have doubled commitments next Saturday - I'm working a lawyer dinner and then I'm jumping on the Lez Boat for drinks with Leslie et al. So this Saturday was what I was thinking.

You know what slang term I don't like? "Fuck with," meaning (as best as I can tell) "get into" or "experience." Could be that I've only ever heard it used by white hip-hop bloggers (as in "I haven't even fucked with that new Kanye album yet"), but it just kind of grates.

And by "heard it used" I mean "seen it used."

I have to go see Maps tonight at the Field Museum. Boo!

Yeah, to me "fuck with" implies some level of tinkering or changing. To my mind, you cannot "fuck with" the new Kanye album unless you were a producer.

There's a new slang term blossoming in this sentence, though. You know the usual phrase "I'll wait for the DVD." With music it can be "I'll hear it used" (i.e., buy it used).

It's more of a put-down than the DVD phrase, because it implies that it'll be easy to find in the used bins.

Jenny- I'll probably be able to be up at Johnny's by 6:45 or so, you still up for a beer or two?

I am a curmudgeonly late (usually never) adopter of slang. See: insider/outsider language. Very rarely am I on the "insider" side of things. That guy seems to be forcing his way inside by aggressively using this construction.

John, etc.- what about: "Crack? No. I don't fuck with that."

or "I've fucked around with Sudoku, but found I was too damn dumb to do it."

Yeah, it's different from what John said, but I can't wait to try it out.

Of course, "used bins" won't exist much in a few more years.

Kevin, Joe mentioned that move when I saw him at B&L's show! I barely know him, though, we prob won't like hang out this weekend or anything. Basically unless I can convince anyone to take my other ticket, I'm going to all three days alone.

jesse - i dunno. i would imagine that it's the same type of usage as "fuck around with" but the person got lazy and dropped the "around" because phrasal verbs with two prepositions are unwieldy? i have no idea.

but i maintain that this is a matter of showing inclusivity into a group (hip hop enthusiasts?) and waving of the slang wang.
