i know this thread is supposed to be all clean, streamlined hypermodern living

but honestly it just makes me think of dusty old magazines in my grandparent's garage

weird, cuz i find these images incredibly refreshing. like they let cool, clean air into my mind, making me feel all relaxed, sensible and efficient. there's an lightness and elegance to midcentury design that i find nearly intoxicating. get the same same thing from the era's product design:

well, i have a baha rocker in my living room, and while i am quite fond of it i'd never call it light or elegant ... it's actually rather bulky and awkward

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 21:17 (twelve years ago) link

a 19th century shaker rocking chair is def more "light and elegant" if you ask me

midcentury is so played ... "found" design is where it's at

how is an amish quilt a "found" design?

should have a thread for fabric/textile designs i suppose (or "found" design or w/e)...

Wtf Amish quilt, next you'll be talking about putting bird feathers in your hair

mh, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 22:25 (twelve years ago) link

i'm just kidding about "found" design, but in all seriousness it's a term that i've seen thrown around blogs when talking about folk design / naive design that mirrors modernism

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 22:29 (twelve years ago) link

i realize it's at least as loaded and patronizing as talking about naive art or outsider art
