Did 2.6 or so miles in 30 minutes tonight, walked about 1/4 of it.

Rock 'n' roll.

I have been interval-ing on treadmill for ease of timing and speed control.

Just did a goodbye seattle 5 miles from my gym to down along the waterfront path and back. Windy, chilly, grey, waves crashy, rain spitting: it felt awesome and totally matched my mood.

tehresa, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Skipped my interval workout last night. Drove 15 minutes with my fiance to the nearest middle school with a 1/4 mile track, and the lights were shut out, huge NO TRESPASSING signs at every gate threatening to call police on violators, etc. By the time I got home it was pushing 11pm so I cracked a beer and watched an episode of Dexter instead.

Tonight's plan is to head out the door, no map, no planned distance, just fucking run around like an animal. Fiance's working late so I'll take my phone and head home when she's doing the same. How many miles can I sneak in... that's the question.

Talking like a crazy man now...

Do 30 miles.

I just got some Yankz! Itching to try them out. So tired of tying shoes.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:47 (fourteen years ago) link

Planning to just run, remember where I've turned on various streets, then use Gmaps Pedometer to figure out how far I've run once I have finished.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 April 2010 13:38 (fourteen years ago) link

So, I made it about 8 miles altogether. She called once I was hitting my stride around 5-6, so turned around and called it a night.

Next time: 30 miles.

Easy 3 miles last night in my Vibram FiveFingers. Love those "shoes" dearly.

so strange on how the times when i start out and i feel like i'm dogging it, i end up picking up my game half way through and feeling like i can run forever.

I’m totally ready for that 4 mile on Sunday btw, I did 4 last night with relative ease. Amazing how fast my endurance has picked up just from running regularly for a few weeks now

various incomprehensible beefs (Aerosol), Friday, 9 April 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

7k in 37 minutes = the furthest I've ever run!! boo ya. building up to first 10k in about 6 weeks.

9 miles and change today. Wonderful weather. Tried some Shot Bloks on my run. I like them better than gels.

Jeff, Saturday, 10 April 2010 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

I posted this upthread last month:

I carry straight water for anything around 4+ miles/45 minutes or longer. At 7-8 I start carrying a sports drink (I use Heed, which is like Gatorade et al., without all the processed crap and corn syrup). Around half-marathon distance or longer I will carry a drink that also has some protein in it (my choice is Perpetuem; similar to Heed, but with a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein).

I take along water for anything longer than about 8 miles or if it's ridic hot, and then I carry a few sachets of energy gel for anything further than 10 miles.

had a surprisingly easy time making myself run this morning. usually every time is a struggle where i force myself to leave before i think of an excuse but by the time i was a block from my house i thought, whoa how did i get out here w/o even thinking about it??

Can I run/walk a 10k with only 2 weeks to train? I'm thinking yes, yes? If I don't get ambitious or anything.

ljubljana, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:00 (fourteen years ago) link

(as I posted upthread, have not run for abot 10 yrs and even back then never did more than 20 mins. Couple of weeks ago did 30 mins on treadmill, alternating 4 mins at 5.5 jog then 1 min at 3.5 walk, and was fine)

ljubljana, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

whats the point, you know, run to run; remain in joy

ice cr?m, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:08 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah to do the 10k would be like that 30 min alternating times 3, plus you'd be on land which is different so imo wait for the next 10k

harbl, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:15 (fourteen years ago) link

great that so many others are kinda starting out here too. not easy to read about the superilxors and their 10 miles all the time :)

really didn't feel great tonight, but my running partner for the upcoming races texted me with details of a 59 minute 10k and i dragged myself out for 5k. bleh.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Reason to do it is friends are doing it and I feel left out! Bit pathetic

It is all downhill...

ljubljana, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:43 (fourteen years ago) link

I haven't been running a lot for very long. Really just got back into it last August. You can be me in 6 months! I'm still working on being super.

Jeff, Saturday, 10 April 2010 23:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Please note that there is a lot of baggage that comes along with being me. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

You should totally do this. Just run/walk at your leisure, don't worry about time. You'll be able to finish, even if you walk as much as you run; who cares? Personal aside: I ran my first 10k on a week's training 5 years ago, and haven't looked back since.

ugh i had the worst treadmill experience today. gonna try to forget it and do better on land tomorrow.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 April 2010 06:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Did the 4 mile in 42:30! so stocked on finishing my first race and running the whole way! Awesome weather and a great morning

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Sunday, 11 April 2010 15:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Just done about 5 miles with Emma's brother, who's training for a half marathon. Walked maybe a third of it, but it was really good, really enjoyed it.

i think my legs are broken. do not understand how i went from the most amazing run on wed to feeling like utter shit with every step today. maybe break a few days :-\

tehresa, Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

tehresa, Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:12 (fourteen years ago) link

My allergies are killing me too.

Ran 6 miles today. Didn't feel that great from my 9 yesterday, but I haven't had a weekend like this in awhile.

Jeff, Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:13 (fourteen years ago) link

My last two runs I've seen the Hi Guy out and about. Sure sign that it's spring time in Chicago.

Jeff, Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:51 (fourteen years ago) link

Did 2x8 miles this weekend in prospect park. Slight hamstring pain but ok. In terms of allergies: I sneeze 30 times per hour right now, seriously. Never done anything about it though.
