jw... wow, that's nasty. I can assume that's not a suicide attempt, because if it was, it looks like it would have been far too successful to have gotten to the point where it could be stitched.

My attention seeking ways are waaay more direct than posting suicide attempt pixxxx on flickr for u; I had my radius reconstructed because it didn't heal right. Physical therapy is a bitch; anyone have any advice on disciplining myself to doing it / making a full recovery? I've weaned myself off the painkillers (and cigarettes so far).

Kramkoob (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Saturday, 1 November 2008 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link

do you have a set of those radical electrical shock pads?

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Saturday, 1 November 2008 21:31 (fifteen years ago) link

My mother has a scar like that, from breaking her wrist and having the metal plate fitted. I have a similar (although larger) scar on my left ankle. So I have a bit of direct and indirect experience of physical therapy. The advice would be simply to do the exercises, otherwise things will be a lot more difficult later, and you risk not getting back full mobility of that joint.

snoball, Saturday, 1 November 2008 22:01 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm already guaranteed not to get back full mobility since the fracture extended into the joint itself. Although at this point, I'll settle for limited mobility if I have no problem doing stuff like biking and moving couches.

Kramkoob (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Saturday, 1 November 2008 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Unlike a lot of medicine, there's not a vast grey area with physical therapy. The more closely you follow the exercises, the better the results, ie, the more mobility you will eventually have. I say eventually because as you know it takes ages to get it back. It was two months after the operation before my mother could lift anything heavier than a full coffee cup. I don't know about moving couches, but could conceivably be riding a bike again soon.

jon: i've seen a documentary about injured soldiers and a physical therapist remarked they were good at doing their exercises since they approached it as yet another training camp, their past training helped them to focus, follow orders and be patient. maybe you could read military books for entertainment, to put you in that frame of mind.
