Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:15 (twenty years ago) link

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:16 (twenty years ago) link

Apparently, Spencer, you're going to get to meet everyone but Momus at this rate.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:16 (twenty years ago) link

I've met Momus! But let's get him out on the same weekend anyway!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:17 (twenty years ago) link

Oh shit, I forgot about that. Well, that's it, you can die a happy man after October 27th!

Wait--no Tracer Hand.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:18 (twenty years ago) link

I know, I wanted to meet the Trace-dogg :(

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:19 (twenty years ago) link

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:21 (twenty years ago) link

oh and thanks for the endorsement Nick - I do hope to be the next Gov. of CA.

Your campaign slogan? Chow kicks harder ass than Swartzenegger

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

I hope so. Too bad it's not Halloween.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

Oh drats, I don't think I can do Saturday.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:04 (twenty years ago) link

does anyone know if the Peter Saville thing at PS1 is still on or not? I called them and they didn't seem to understand what I was talking about...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:23 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think so... Maybe another moody, sexually adrift exhibit though...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:26 (twenty years ago) link

sounds like a blast...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:31 (twenty years ago) link

Anything a must see gallery/museum-wise while I'm there?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:33 (twenty years ago) link

OK, who can make the 24th? I'm definitely open to pre-FAPing with those who can't.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:45 (twenty years ago) link

I can make it but is this the same thing as the MatosFAP?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:01 (twenty years ago) link

don't know... if so, then cool!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:04 (twenty years ago) link

I can make the 24th and 25th.

Mary, apparently we have to coordinate both as one big mechaFAP? I have to think of what to wear.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:48 (twenty years ago) link

OK some breaking news to try to tie together the Matos and Spencer threads:

on the 24th, Joan Jett and Andrew WK are playing at the Warsaw! It's $22 a person and it starts at 8pm. Would anyone over here be interested in attending?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 3 October 2003 17:29 (twenty years ago) link

I noted this news on the Matos thread. I might go, but I don't really want to plan ahead since I have people to see who might not want to go. I will however be out and about on friday night and will be happy to meet people somewhere during or after the show. I'll have my cell on.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 17:34 (twenty years ago) link

but you are still ok with a boozing on the 25th?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 3 October 2003 18:36 (twenty years ago) link

I'm not sure I'm feeling the Joan WK shindig, but thanks for the head-up!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:05 (twenty years ago) link

Sat/25th, I am definitely down for mechaFAPitron

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:15 (twenty years ago) link

We need to pick somewhere chic and worthy of Spencer. Botanica?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:20 (twenty years ago) link

The Cock?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

I'm down for either. Haha Mary, we should go back to Rise...

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

Mike Daddino gets to attend both this and the London Tom Wedding MegaFAP. I R JEALOUS.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:39 (twenty years ago) link

The Hole!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:13 (twenty years ago) link

Ooh okay! The Hole and The Urge and The Slide. The Terrible Trio of 2nd Ave. Gay Sleaze Bars! though the hole is straight hipster night on saturday

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:23 (twenty years ago) link

Ooer I've been wanting to go to the Slide for soo long.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:29 (twenty years ago) link

This is turning into an Electric Six song!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:14 (twenty years ago) link

JJ and WK: I am getting tickets for this tomorrow as per Jeanne Fury's heads up.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:19 (twenty years ago) link

oh, i meant to say via othermusic in case anyone needs me to pick them up some if they fear the ticketweb like i do.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:54 (twenty years ago) link

Please tell me we can have the FAP at the Coral Room; there be mermaids there

http://www.coralroomnyc.com/

Or how about Princess on Bayard St? There is a cute purple neon sign that says "Princess" in cursive and karaoke inside I think.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 06:38 (twenty years ago) link

When is Gareth in NYC?

All you muthafuckas should go out to the Luna Lounge this Saturday and see my sweethearts straight outta the EDT, SLICK 57. G-Unit saw these boys and loves them, but I don't think he'll be there.

Go see them and tell the bassist Susan/Sam sent you and he'll feel you up. ;)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 6 October 2003 07:03 (twenty years ago) link

I don't have the exact dates for the G-money traveling circus yet, but perhaps it will coincide with Halloween.

Should we go to Winnie's for karaoke? Or will it be too crowded there?

Spencer, I recommend the Isamu Noguchi and Modern Japanese Ceramics exhibit at the Japan Society.

http://www.japansociety.org/exhibit/upcoming.cfm

If you haven't been to the Noguchi museum in Queens you could do that to. They may even have a bus from the Japan Society.

http://www.noguchi.org/

Also: the Takashi Murakami public installation at Rock Center.

Other things that have been in the press: the Pulp Art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum,

http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/special_exhibitions/pulp_art/

and the America Effect at the Whitney (though I wouldn't personally recommend this last one), oh never mind, looks like it's closed anyway.

http://www.whitney.org/

If you were Gareth, I would recommend the Stephen Shore photography exhibit at the 303 Gallery.

http://www.303gallery.com/

If you have time, take a train out to Dia Beacon.

http://www.diabeacon.org/dia/visitor/index.html

Further afield, but I think it would be very Spencerlike to see the Diane Arbus exhibit at Mount Holyoke.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

Mary, thanks for the tips!!! I was actually thinking about that Diane Arbus thing and I will definitely check out the Noguchi museum. The others sound great too!

Most of these drinking establishments sound pretty great as well.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 15:07 (nineteen years ago) link

two years pass...

I'll be in NYC from Wednesday night to Monday morning. Is anyone still around? I'm also DJing with Juan Maclean and a guy from the Rapture on thurs at Hiro Ballroom.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 11 June 2007 18:39 (seventeen years ago) link

BONUS PICS!

Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2007 18:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Who *is* still around??

Spencer Chow, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:20 (seventeen years ago) link

hstencil, felicity, yanc3y, lauren, p. eater. maybe geeta, daddino and nabisco. noize board people. i will be out of town until sunday.

Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Spencer that sounds superb - I wish I were there!

I don't know if it's still the case but Hiro is one of the few clubs in NYC you can smoke in. Which endears me to it even if the door staff can be a little unforgiving. I had a memorable night there with ILX's own maura after which I was given a summons for peeing on a tree. So uh, be careful out there.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:51 (seventeen years ago) link

wow, maybe i'll go to that thursday, although i'm not a huge fan of the hiro ballroom. great decor, ridiculous drink prices and asshole security guards, blah blah. why did i miss spencer in town in 2004?

hstencil, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:53 (seventeen years ago) link

YOU DIDN'T

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh wait, you did!

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Isn't it mostly free entry on the door though? And they book good stuff.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:18 (seventeen years ago) link

One time I accidentally went downstairs there without whateverthefuck wristband I was supposed to have and would not be let back up the stairs no matter what I said. Nobody's phone got any reception. After a while I felt like I was in an acting exercise or a videogame. But that videogame I lost.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:19 (seventeen years ago) link

yikes. i still haven't been there. roommates had a gig there once but skipped for some reason or another.

free entry is appealing, though!

I think we're going on pretty early.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:32 (seventeen years ago) link

oh i know the dudes that do that gbh party, they're nice.

hstencil, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:22 (seventeen years ago) link

half of me wants to go to this and just stay out all night until my 6 am train to philly on friday. that will probably not happen, though.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Isn't Jordan supposed to be playing there that night as well, or is it the night after?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:10 (seventeen years ago) link

that is probably not a good idea, tehresa.

i have to miss thursday, have other plans now, but i'm up for anything else.

hstencil, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:16 (seventeen years ago) link

since when has 'probably not a good idea' stopped me?!

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:22 (seventeen years ago) link

On the other hand, staying up all night and then getting on a train & falling asleep is probably the best way to deal with amtrak (or NJ Transit, are you changing in Trenton?).

lyra, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 13:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't make the Thurs thing, Spencer, but what's happening over the weekend?

Laurel, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 13:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Unfortunately, because you know how I like a club with smoking.

Laurel, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 13:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Not sure, I'll post when I do. Might be going to some Nylon mag party thing Wednesday night.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago) link

did anyone go? I have to say, we enjoyed ourselves immensely at the party
