Chicago ca. 1983. And I'd like to be 14 and in a John Hughes teen movie.

But failing advances in time machine technology, I'd settle for Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada. Some place much further away from the equator, that doesn't get a whole lot of sun, that's colder and has better winters.

I want to go to the first four places on that list. Everywhere arctic!

Maria, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I've found lately that travel has lost some of its appeal for me. I suppose I could compile a list of if-money-were-no-object places to go, but given that I'm going to be low-income for the next three years due to school, and given that I haven't really liked where I live and my work for the last few years, I'm much more concerned with just finding a way to like my work and the place where I live and less with travel. I can't justify blowing a couple thousand dollars for a few weeks of exoticism and landscape gawking right now.

Hurting 2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Also I have some carbon footprint and oil-dependence guilt about air travel.

Hurting 2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:30 (fifteen years ago) link

still wanna go to disko island

get bent, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:33 (fifteen years ago) link

To tell the truth, travel to far foreign parts is not only expensive, but strikes me, after a certain amount of so-here-I-am-far-from-home-in-a-strange-land kick-in-the-head experience, as a game of fast diminishing returns.

I happen to live in the west of North America, a place that is mind-fuckingly beautiful. I have finally, after five decades, visited most of my native state of Oregon and my neighboring state of Washington. I could happily spend the remainder of my life filling in the last gaps in that map and revisiting the great and awesome places I've already seen.

I love this place. Since this is my home, this only seems proper and right.

Two votes for Sydney, one for Darwin, none for Melbourne. Interesting.

I'm thinking of rambling cross country next summer. Leave the driving to Greyhound.

Could be a time.

I'm done with college, this is when you're supposed to do this sort of thing right?

i'm all euro-y now, lol

gabbneb, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 04:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Get to Arches/Canyonlands before they start drilling ;_;

I would vote for Greek Islands, but only because I like greek food better than scottish food.

Jaq, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 04:59 (fifteen years ago) link

i have a bunch of "before..." places. Venice should maybe be on the list. and Kilimanjaro.

yeah, the idea of Greek Islands excites me more, and I'm sure I'd like the food better, but otoh I am more of a mountain than beach person and don't react well to prolonged sun exposure
