And travel to London – perhaps the most dangerous corner of this New World – where a terrifying, shape-shifting slime mold called the slithersucker is king of the rainforest.

the more things change, etc.

YOU GUYS THERE IS A PREVIEW CLIP.

jessie monster, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:47 (seventeen years ago) link

ally I totally saw that dragon show. Patrick Stweart was all "We all know that dragons don't really exist -- but what if they did?" and would just proceed to talk in detail about how some archaeological team unearthed a dragon skeleton and discovered how dragons made fire as if it were FACT. yeah.

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:47 (seventeen years ago) link

it was completely insane and lasted a really long time and he used a lot of made up super technical terms for how dragons breathe fire and their offspring and everything, it was amazing.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:48 (seventeen years ago) link

to be fair half the things in the story of shieldhead were clearly made up to.

listen the thing is that discovery channel is just making shit up 94/7, there are no new discoveries anymore! and they don't want to be all history channel and all like "oh hey here's some more hitler, i guess, i mean it takes a while to make more history you ungrateful fuckers," so they just make it up. i kind of like the strategy but it just seems like they're gonna run out of that too eventually.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:52 (seventeen years ago) link

i wish the history channel would just start making shit up left and right, actually.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

also, did you know dragons ate rocks to get at platinum deposits, which they used as a catalyst to get PURE HYDROGEN? and that dragons were not unlike zeppelins in that they had a BLADDER FULL OF HYDROGEN to make them bouyant? and that when they breathed fire, they depleted their reserves and slowly sank? TRUE FACTS

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

i wish the history channel would just start making shit up left and right, actually.

i mean, it's nominally "history" because they'll titillate you with all these wacko occult theories and then be like "there's no reliable historical evidence for this"

Mysteries of the Freemasons
Episode: The Beginning.

Suspected throughout their long history of plotting to overtake the world, accused of fomenting revolution, and reviled as devil worshippers that stole King Solomon's treasure, the Freemasons claim they're merely a civic-minded fraternity, bound together by harmless rituals. Our high-energy cocktail of dramatic reenactment, expert interviews, and on-location footage entertains historians Akram Elias, Stephen Bullock, and Brent Morris to retell the Freemasons' central myth concerning Hiram Abiff, mythical builder of Jerusalem's Temple of Solomon. During construction, he was killed by three workers who believed his "secret" would impart magical powers--representing the three evils against which Freemasons believe they're still struggling: ignorance, fanaticism, and tyranny. Today, the world's 2.5 million Freemasons meet to reenact the ritual of Hiram's murder as the initiation ceremony for the main rank of Master Mason.

hah my moms sometimes listens to this late late night am talk show 'coast to coast' which is the loopiest conspiracy stuff, and then she gets freaked out & i'm like HOW ABOUT DONT LISTEN TO THAT SHOW

daria-g, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:02 (seventeen years ago) link

my old apartment used to be in direct sightline of that old biography sign above columbus circle (which i think is something else now??? like a cable news channel sign?) and that was always the most hilarious because it only ran weather forecast and the time of day but then would randomly advertise, without warning, whatever biography they were showing that evening so it'd be like TODAY'S FORECAST 32F/0C SUNNY WINDS 5MPH SW RONALD REAGAN CHANCE OF SNOW 10:32AM.

i kind of could watch that shit for a really long time when i felt like not showing up on time to work.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

haha ART BELL ftw

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

omg my mom used to listen to art bell

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

oh man i'm v confident that my stepmom listened to art bell.

it's probably my dad's fault actually but he just thought shit was funny, same reason he picked up the fortean times

ghost rider, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago) link

i think art bell's not on anymore? can you confirm/deny elmo?

ghost rider, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:05 (seventeen years ago) link

i can never figure out if my mom is interested in this shit because it's funny or because she thinks any of it is real, it'll be like one day she's on 94/7 batboy tip and then next day she's seriously sitting there telling me about what will happen when the axis turns and it's like MOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM STFU and my dad would just be like "i'm sorry, dear, what did you say? i think i'm having a hard time hearing today, i had headphones on earlier."

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I remember once during Art Bell's tenure on Coast to Coast, there was a guy who called in about black helicopters, and while he was on the air the caller started freaking out: "What...? Oh my god. THEY'RE HERE, THEY'RE COMING FOR ME!! THEY'RE... *click*"

And Art Bell was like, "There you have it folks, they got him."

Art Bell has since been replaced, but I still think he does one show once in a while? xpost

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago) link

hahahahahahahaha "they got him"

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

i mean art bell is basically blood diamonds, i shouldn't talk shit about him

ghost rider, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:08 (seventeen years ago) link
