I'm listening to all three volumes of Ocean Drive. Double album sets of "Beach Music" put out by Beach Beat records. lots of 60's soul/pop soul/pop. no surf music though or any beach boys/jan & dean type stuff. this stuff is actually what people on the southeast shores of the carolinas called beach music in the 60's. so, it's a very particular beach music.

scott seward, Thursday, 16 July 2009 18:43 (4 months ago) Permalink

okay, i had to turn that off cuz i really needed to hear "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" by Waylon Jennings.

strangely underrated @ discogs and allmusic. listening to the a-side right now, the cowbell break of pattie brooks' after dark coud go on forever imo.

TGIF is a great soundtrack!

speaking of soundtracks, now i'm listening to "FM" on the FM soundtrack. then i'm gonna listen to "FM - Reprise".

scott seward, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:10 (4 months ago) Permalink

haha, the donna summer gainsbourg cover bonus 12" is completely worn out. the rest of the soundtrack is in mint condition. hmm.

listening to this now:

belgian disco, polish pressing, no complaints. they do it right.

disco-funk versiona of 'Black Dog' and 'Caravan'. The slow jam is 'Crabwalk', which sounds like night music from The Rockford Files.

yahowa 13 - penetration: an aquarian symphony (there seems to be an annoying amount of repetitive surface noise on this, even though it's a new copy of the reissue. blech.)

also, tangentially... there is a guy on ebay (located in germany) selling clean copies of those Swordfish Yahowa reissues, except that his shipping for one LP is over $20. The LPs are all ending tomorrow and many of them have bids between $1-5. What do you think my chances are of winning several of them cheap enough to make it a worthwhile purchase?

I could've bought that Kick Axe LP for $1 at the Austin Record Convention last month, but I didn't buy it because I'm stupid.

ha yeah, I was inspired to pull it out of the stacks after I saw that in the dollar thread. That's probably what I paid for it.

ian, Friday, 20 November 2009 20:22 (Yesterday) Permalink

for some reason i'm kinda self-conscious about playing joni in public. which is weird cuz i'll play anything in public. heck, i'm playing the doors right now.

xp -- most of my new stuff is in the non-indie underground "punk" "termbo" vein. although there was definitely a glut of good records/bands in/around that scene for the past few years, i radically overbought in the course of developing an ear for stuff. luckily, that stuff is pretty ridic ebay fodder.

thee oh sees are def one of the higher-qual acts, id say...

scott seward, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:06 (Yesterday) Permalink

i'll make you a mix. might take forever. i love making tapes though. i'm gonna send ian my countrywestcoast70's mix i think. cuz i just can't get it together to put it online. though he probably has half the stuff on it by now.

best recent mix i made was all rap instrumental tracks from the 00's. i've listened to that tape, like, 50 times. so cool.

scott seward, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:09 (Yesterday) Permalink

that rap tape sounds amazing!

69, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:20 (Yesterday) Permalink

i have, like, literally 3000 rap singles from the last ten years and i never play them and then one day i just started playing all the instros on them and i was like DAMN. so i made a tape of some of the coolest ones. i could make you a fresh one. as in new. but also as in fresh.

scott seward, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:41 (Yesterday) Permalink

i like the really slow electro jams the best.

scott seward, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:41 (Yesterday) Permalink
