I'm listening to all three volumes of Ocean Drive. Double album sets of "Beach Music" put out by Beach Beat records. lots of 60's soul/pop soul/pop. no surf music though or any beach boys/jan & dean type stuff. this stuff is actually what people on the southeast shores of the carolinas called beach music in the 60's. so, it's a very particular beach music.

scott seward, Thursday, 16 July 2009 18:43 (1 year ago) Permalink

okay, i had to turn that off cuz i really needed to hear "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" by Waylon Jennings.

strangely underrated @ discogs and allmusic. listening to the a-side right now, the cowbell break of pattie brooks' after dark coud go on forever imo.

TGIF is a great soundtrack!

speaking of soundtracks, now i'm listening to "FM" on the FM soundtrack. then i'm gonna listen to "FM - Reprise".

scott seward, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:10 (1 year ago) Permalink

haha, the donna summer gainsbourg cover bonus 12" is completely worn out. the rest of the soundtrack is in mint condition. hmm.

listening to this now:

belgian disco, polish pressing, no complaints. they do it right.

yahowa 13 - penetration: an aquarian symphony (there seems to be an annoying amount of repetitive surface noise on this, even though it's a new copy of the reissue. blech.)

also, tangentially... there is a guy on ebay (located in germany) selling clean copies of those Swordfish Yahowa reissues, except that his shipping for one LP is over $20. The LPs are all ending tomorrow and many of them have bids between $1-5. What do you think my chances are of winning several of them cheap enough to make it a worthwhile purchase?

Scott! COWBOY! That is my favourite of the three Cowboy LPs I have (the other two are the later S/T and Boyer and Talton) but I've never seen a copy of their first album - have you? How does it compare?

Also how do you suppose they justify that unbelievably horrible sleeve?

xxpps i have thought of doing a book of $1 albums; that would be so much fun! but scott is a step ahead of me; i've never submitted a proposal. usually when you say the words "record guide" to publishers they change the subject right away. but if somebody wanted to pay me....

"but scott is a step ahead of me; i've never submitted a proposal."

well, it was more casual than that. this guy asked me if i would be interested in ghostwriting a musician's memoir (!!! i know, right?) and i said maybe, but, hey, what about a buyer's guide for lost, forgotten, dollar bin records...and i basically got the reaction that you mention above. its a hard one to sell. maybe we should do one together, chuck. the unheard 70's...

speaking of which, i got the GREATEST records last night. actually went to an actual record store that wasn't my record store. i will listen more tonight and report back. maria and the kids were gone last night and i had a high time getting stonedidated and drunkidated listening to cool records all night. love my family, but, man, that was just what the doctor ordered.

got lots of stuff that you would dig a bunch, chuck.

unheard 70's

throw in the '80s (at least early '80s) and maybe I'd be up for it someday (again, if some crazy publisher out there would pay for it)! it'd be the best record review book ever, obviously!

uh, turns out that wee papa girl rappers LP is actually called be aware, not beware, duh....maybe i'd have found a non-CD jpg if I'd searched under the proper title.

anyway...
