HEY SKOT!

Thanks for the package! :D

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 6 February 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

hit cheapo today:

paul simon - graceland (highly contoversial vamp weekend thread made me wanna hear this again)

alice cooper - easy action - brand new reissue of it, was only $12! cheap and it's not 180 gram but a real good sounding pressing, which is nice cuz i hardly ever see the original pressings of the zappa ones around...as i suspected alice is a genius on this too

linval thompson - linval - has all the marks of a good reggae record: sly and robbie + other name type dudes on the backing band, mixed by king tubby, and really shitty quality cardboard cover and kinda wonky layout

black arthur blythe - bush baby - lol never seen him billed as "black" arthur blythe on anything else, but anyway this is his pre major label shit, sax, conga, and tuba trio....honestly blythe might be up there with any of the greats for me and his stuff is always plentiful and super cheap on vinyl...guy is one of my fav sax players ever, whadda guy.

went to Grey Matter Books last night in Hadley - outside of Northampton - with the kids and Maria to see a show. Bobo/Big Kids/Bunnybrains/Creepy Peepee were playing. We didn't actually get to see my brother play cuz the band was late getting there - stoners! - and we had to get the kids to bed. Though we did get to see my brother and say hi to him and his lovely girlfriend. Bobo from Philly were funny though and Creepy Peepee a.k.a. Crappy Pappy a.k.a. Drippy Hippie were good and loud. Grey Matter is an awesome space. Huge inside. hadn't been there before. This guy Greg I know supplies them with records (he used to be in the band Feathers) and they have a nice section in the back. Thought I should support them by spending some cash even though I'm poor this week and I got some stuff that is right up my alley:

The Demons - s/t (Mercury - 1977)

Snopek - Thinking Out Loud (Mountain Railroad - 1979)

The Cortinas - True Romances (CBS - 1978)

20/20 - Look Out! (Portrait - 1981)

The Pop - Go! (Arista - 1979)

Pezband - s/t (Passport - 1977)

Brotherhood - s/t (RCA - 1969)

scott seward, Saturday, 13 February 2010 13:51 (fourteen years ago) link

despite the fact that i'm a HUGE Brotherhood fan, i've never had GREAT copies of their two albums. The copy I got last night is no different. clean vinyl, but beat cover. but, what the hell, it was five bucks.

i've been wanting that Snopek album for a LONG time.

scott seward, Saturday, 13 February 2010 13:54 (fourteen years ago) link

talked to my brother. the band never showed up so he and jamie ended up using Bobo as their backing band. things got crazy apparently. someone who was there blogged about it:

sitting in my room. i reek of lavender. i am sipping crystal light i found in the clearance section of Big Y.

i just returned from a
BOBO/BUNNYBRAINS/BIG KIDS/COUCHIE POOCHIE show.

let me just tell you, i have never been so afraid of a grown man's under pants in my life. lucky me, i decided to sit on the floor within his stomping radius. i saw a hard-on peeking through white rayon-cotton blended cloth. i saw pubic hair. i saw divinity in flesh.

Need I remind you that I grew up Born Again Christian?

very sexualized, taboos sprawled across a used book store's floors. energy pulsating through thighs and through chest cavities.

i thought of R___ in her yurt in Maine. i thought of drinking formaldehyde just to see how it made me feel. i am thinking of shit stained panties. i am thinking about my unmedicated self. what is the line between art and insanity? Piero Manzoni.
a moment when the world is too much with us.

call me naive, but i had a moment tonight where i felt i was in Terra Incognita. I was afraid he was going to put his balls on my face. all social norms seemed shattered.

nothing particularly grotesque occurred, but there was an energy in the room that put me on alert.
the signal broadcast was, "i defy middle-class therapy behavioral rules." like, at any minute the crazy woman seated behind me on the bus will punch me in the back o my head== there really is no way to know, unless it happens.
poetica vaginal.

jerusalem & the starbaskets - battle of the orchids (buy now, don't cry later)

twice remembered / twice removed (electricsound), Sunday, 14 February 2010 01:24 (fourteen years ago) link

i doubt i'll be crying. i have no idea what it is. i'll google...

okay, they are a duo who are friends with hush arbors and roger adultery. 320 copies explains the possible crying i guess.

scott seward, Sunday, 14 February 2010 01:47 (fourteen years ago) link

they're a great band and it'll sell out pretty quick i reckon, is all
