i think it wld be good tho
i think it would be too i just don't want to make the space any narrower
― kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:27 (nine years ago) link
fair, considering you have actually seen the space in question
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link
I own a few books on decluttering, they're on my coffee table under some beer bottles

clutter book discussed here btw discussed here Getting Things Done (GTD) - Cult or Awesome?
wow all 9 of the library's copies of that are checked out
― kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link
ha damn
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:29 (nine years ago) link
i can't read the GTD thread. i am sometimes inspired by stupid blog posts about getting things done but trying to implement them makes my brain feel like a knot.
― kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:30 (nine years ago) link
i am def not a GTD person just in it for the decluttering, which tbf i am already pretty into, its just like an interest of mine
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link
i love when things are not cluttered too. you wouldn't know it looking at my office or house though.
― kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link
i only located the declutter talk in GTD via an excelsior post
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link
the main take away from that book seems throw everything you dont absolutely adore or use constantly away in one swoop then make sure everything thats left has an assigned place to be put away, i only read the first chapter tho, i think theres advice abt how to specifically organize stuff too

the lady is quite a charming loon too telling stories about how she loved to read articles about how to clean things when she was a kid
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:37 (nine years ago) link
i bought it because the title claims tidying up is magical and i believe that
― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:39 (nine years ago) link
we just ripped out track shelving but it looked awful in a georgian living room. want to replace it with tall cupboards/cabinets we can cover in wallpaper but not sure you can get ones tall and narrow enough. or maybe you can and they're called wardrobes idk

i apologize in advance for this horrifically ugly pic
http://designlike.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/countryliving.jpg
WHAT is the thing on the left hand/upper side of the pic that appears to be holding dried flowers in its base
― jello my future biafriend (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 7 January 2015 20:45 (nine years ago) link
A water dispenser/vat with a spiggot at the bottom and a basin to catch drips? Is my best guess.
Every time I look at the sheer number of flowered things I start laughing though so I'm a lil distracted.

before i even scrolled down to your post beneath the image, my first thought was 'wtf is that awesome thing on the wall'

I know it's potpourri in that stupid thing under it, but I decided you put dried mushrooms in there and it's a mushroom rehydrating device

i put up the shelves. i'll take a picture when my kitchen is clean again (lol, never). i used white track shelving and a cheap pine board i got cut up at home depot. i'll paint it white when it's warm out. looks fine! i might get that magic decluttering book.

home diaries
upstairs hallway light bulbs die. upon taking shade off i notice there was only one 40w bulb in there. got new bulbs. realize i was not paying attention and the things you screw in were the small size. get bulbs again. install. absentmindedly put screws holding lip of glass shade to ceiling fitting on way too tight. shade cracks into pieces from pressure of screws 1 min later. SO STUPID.

I need a giant rug and thinking of getting a piece of carpet bound on the edges - anyone done this?
― kinder, Sunday, 3 May 2015 17:28 (nine years ago) link
How giant does this rug need to be?
― Aimless, Sunday, 3 May 2015 17:29 (nine years ago) link
about 10.5 x 11.5 feet? Not sure actually, going to play around with the rug we have to see where's best to put it.
― kinder, Sunday, 3 May 2015 21:02 (nine years ago) link
i need a rug too, what are some good rugs?
― los blue jeans, Sunday, 3 May 2015 21:12 (nine years ago) link
I fantasize about filling my house w layers of rugs from overstock.com tbh

I think they have lots of nice looking ones. I wish the sort function worked slightly more specifically but actually it's pretty good.

Got a room with walls painted grey - need some colour in it, especially a blind (one of the ones I still don't have from November 2015 apparently). I like some yellow fabrics but is grey&yellow going to be too played out from Pinterest in the near future?
― kinder, Friday, 24 February 2017 15:07 (seven years ago) link
If you like it, you like it. Some colors go together.
― the world's little sunbeam (in orbit), Friday, 24 February 2017 15:16 (seven years ago) link
gray goes well with a lot of colors. yellow, red, purple, and green all match w/ it well imo
― marcos, Friday, 24 February 2017 15:20 (seven years ago) link
Was considering doing a shari vari in the back of our bookshelves but decided to go for a single colour instead. Which should match/complement the blind.
― kinder, Friday, 24 February 2017 15:30 (seven years ago) link
To be more specific, different grays go with different other colors. It's more about the shading than anything. There are a million grays.

I've transcended from clutter to actually dirty around here, took day off work for mental health reasons and am going to try to get some cleaning done!
― mh 😏, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:11 (seven years ago) link
be less disgusting otmmy breaking point came when i saw something hiding behind the grapefruit and made the mistake of reaching out to touch it and it was an extremely decrepit pear ;_;pretty gross

i have the desire to paint, de-clutter and clean when I'm totally slammed with work and don't have time to do these things -- also, the desire is an escape mechanism -- putting off one thing in favor of something else that isn't as immediately necessary but easier. bedroom really needs paint, as it hasn't been painted in almost 20 yrs (as in right before I moved in). But I'm going to wait until summer or at least warmish spring, so I can open the windows to air out the paint smell.

When I'm pushed to action with a really busy week at work I feel the obligation to be _on_ when I'm home, too
which is horrible because slow times at work would be the perfect time to get a lot of home stuff done but I slow down
