super dozy defending, no one cutting out a simple throughball, hammill (i think) with a good cross across the face of the box and header into the ground and in from a yard out

oh equaliser!

lol i missed mine typing that

r|t|c, Saturday, 10 August 2013 14:41 (ten years ago) link

i am wrong it is out of sync, bollocks.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Saturday, 10 August 2013 14:41 (ten years ago) link

Does the "and beyond" make this thread the appropriate place for non-league chat too?

Just spent an enjoyable afternoon watching Dulwich Hamlet (nominally my English side) beat Lowestoft Town 2-0 on their return to the Rymans Premier despite being under the cosh most of the game and going down to 10 men after 55 mins.

michaellambert, Saturday, 10 August 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

We signed Daniel Carr from Dulwich Hamlet not long after there were reports in the press that Chelsea + Liverpool were after him. He has only featured for the U21's so far, but some folk say he could be one to watch.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:23 (ten years ago) link

we're gonna play much harder teams than Gillingham this season but that was pretty great. total dominance, excellent performances from Griffiths, Ismail, Davis, Evans and Batth, proper football, probably shd've scored 8 or 9, Mad Dog dressed up as Santa as an extra treat. gonna have to do the 300 mile round trip every fortnight now.

phased squirtle tarps (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:32 (ten years ago) link

How shit were Gillingham? We completely outplayed Sheffield Utd today and it's Gills next week. I worry that an ex-Brentford manager and 3 ex-Brentford players will suddenly remember to play properly, or at least be sufficiently motivated to kick us into submission.

oppet, Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link

hard to tell, i think they try and play it the right way and were just thoroughly outclassed. our guys had a lot of time and space on the ball and they had no answer to the wide players. if you get a chance, see Leigh Griffiths' first goal - he has half an hour to turn on the edge of the box and slot it home. altho today may've shocked them enough to rough it up a bit in future.

phased squirtle tarps (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:52 (ten years ago) link

i'm probably psyching myself up. tbh if the Gills play like today every week they will get butchered.

phased squirtle tarps (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:53 (ten years ago) link

Their squad looks pretty crap. Forgot about Nelson so it's actually four from us, none of them much good. Bloody Big Dog has got a bit of a knack tho.

oppet, Saturday, 10 August 2013 20:59 (ten years ago) link

Hang on... Neal Ardley and Neal Eardley are pronounced the same now? (Also: look at the Yeovil away end! Cars on the verge!)

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 10 August 2013 22:45 (ten years ago) link

Those Sky Sports people were not entirely wrong about Wade Elliott's haircut, either.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 10 August 2013 22:48 (ten years ago) link

SIDNEY SCHMELTZ

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:21 (ten years ago) link

Classic Martin Allen performance there.

oppet, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:23 (ten years ago) link

Jesus, Griffiths really did have a fortnight to cross the street there.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:24 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that was extraordinary defending.

oppet, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:27 (ten years ago) link

Ohhh, that Stanley goal there. That was absolutely gorgeous.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:36 (ten years ago) link

xxxp yeah, i think Carr had a week or so on trial at Liverpool before signing for Huddersfield. Never got the chance to see him play but by all accounts a good prospect.

michaellambert, Sunday, 11 August 2013 01:16 (ten years ago) link

Stephen Ward out on a season long loan to Mumford and Sons, Kenny Jackett keeps on doing the Lord's work

teen striker comes on for debut 83rd minute, scores winner in the 90th

what is this feeling in my cold dead heart... is this the football of which you humans speak

r|t|c, Saturday, 17 August 2013 15:57 (ten years ago) link

we had two first-time scorers as well today, including a teenager (well he might be 20 actually)

more importantly, millwall are bottom, pointless

imago, Saturday, 17 August 2013 16:00 (ten years ago) link

So you have succumbed to a temporary state of Frenzy?
xp

I am glad with town's hard fought win at the den, not got anything there for a long time.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Saturday, 17 August 2013 16:03 (ten years ago) link

spiralli's lot monstering that deficit. 'the spark we needed' perhaps

imago, Saturday, 17 August 2013 16:03 (ten years ago) link

i did say millwall would struggle tbf

He might do well if he resists touting himself for every L1/Championship vacancy when sacking season begins.

cracking start to the season for my boys the O's, keep it up lads!

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 17 August 2013 16:35 (ten years ago) link

Bees equalised with 3 seconds of injury time left. I'm sure Big Dog has saved his best for the football league show.

oppet, Saturday, 17 August 2013 16:38 (ten years ago) link

First QPR youth product to score since Antonio German in spring 2010. Only the second to have even been on the pitch since German.

If you tolerate Bis, then Kenickie will be next (ithappens), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:12 (ten years ago) link

I don't think Lomas is going to endear himself further to Milwall fans by saying today was their best performance so far. Even if it did sound like they could have got something from the game. I guess Jackett knew it was going to be a slog when he jumped ship.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Saturday, 17 August 2013 20:26 (ten years ago) link

Lomas had only really got the hang of post match interviews when he left Saints. Didn't always sound reassuring. Hope he turns things round, though.

michaellambert, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:00 (ten years ago) link

I think this is the thread where we are grateful to the Conference for picking a sponsor with a sufficiently stupid name that everyone will refer to the leagues as Conference Premier/North/South, because Skrill North... that just sounds rubbish.

William Bloody Swygart, Tuesday, 20 August 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link

Skrill is a very unwise name for a company. I have already seen people referring to the Conference as the "Skrillex Division". Bad juju on brand awareness from the start of their sponsorship.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Tuesday, 20 August 2013 22:24 (ten years ago) link

i quite like it tbh, "minnows" is overused so a seeming association with krill feels pleasingly appropriate

and yes, edm brostep, why not

not to piss on the man's chips but leon barnett may possibly be a tad too chuffed with equalising against doncaster

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 August 2013 23:04 (ten years ago) link

Owen Coyle had a long discussion with Owen Coyle about this result. Full statement coming from Owen Coyle when he ceases talking to Owen Coyle about Owen Coyle's results.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Tuesday, 20 August 2013 23:48 (ten years ago) link

so then, Hogan Ephraim, good enough for League 1?

Dacca to Environ (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 August 2013 16:48 (ten years ago) link

Moneybookers (trading as Skrill since 2011) is a British e-commerce business that allows payments to be made through the Internet.

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 21 August 2013 16:57 (ten years ago) link

think hogan played for charlton in l1

i wouldnt really know as he hasnt featured for us in four years or whatever. good lad, enthusiastic, seems to be nice to have around (presumably, since no one's gone out of their way to show him the door), doesnt particularly excel at anything

paolo sousa once thought a lot of him iirc, back when he was a poor man's routledge to a newly arrived adel

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 August 2013 17:03 (ten years ago) link

When ignorant football people snottily refer to smaller clubs as "the likes of..".

http://popularstand.wordpress.com/2013/07/17/re-introducing-the-likes-of-doncaster/

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Thursday, 22 August 2013 13:18 (ten years ago) link

haha excellent piece

Dacca to Environ (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 August 2013 13:21 (ten years ago) link

won't be much left to like when we're finished with 'em

hogan ephraim is yer archetypical decent little player. will pop up unnoticed in the box. his littleness is his greatest asset.

imago, Thursday, 22 August 2013 13:35 (ten years ago) link

That Doncaster post is absolutely majestic.

William Bloody Swygart, Thursday, 22 August 2013 18:35 (ten years ago) link

Agreed, it's brilliant. I hope I never come across a real life Annan Athletic or Montrose fan, because I find myself doing that "likes of" thing a LOT.

unlucky noodles

oh never mind!

r|t|c, Friday, 23 August 2013 20:34 (ten years ago) link

good little match even before this

that ismael looks a player eh

r|t|c, Friday, 23 August 2013 20:37 (ten years ago) link

totally legit penalty

brought the situation on ourselves tho, just played backwards after 30 minutes or so, Crawley can consider themselves unlucky

on the other hand, these kids will be playing top flight in the next 5 years

Dacca to Environ (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 24 August 2013 02:03 (ten years ago) link

oh yeah definite pen no question

quite impressed with crawley, decent quality fitba

sako was pretty rub? and jesus doyler is for the glue factory

r|t|c, Saturday, 24 August 2013 09:25 (ten years ago) link

Sako is nowhere near worth what we're paying him but the transfer interest has dried up. His end product is usually shite, over-hit crosses or shots from 30 yards that nearly kill some poor kid in row T.

i have a soft spot for Doyler and i do think he's got something to offer, but again the money he's on is way too much to justify in League 1. weird that Griffiths didn't come on til so late, he was excellent in the first home game. i'll take the scrappy win over good opposition tho, Crawley will probly be thereabouts come the end of the season.

Dacca to Environ (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 24 August 2013 10:15 (ten years ago) link

good old meat and potatoes this

lol at the effing and blinding coming through crystal clear on the comms. "barton with the corner... DICKHEAD!!!... well defended"
