what is this?

Mordy, Thursday, 28 October 2010 14:41 (thirteen years ago) link

new 3 person tactical shooter from the guy behind bayonetta; emphasis is on hi scores and replay value (the club) rather than being all about the epic story (gears of war). has reviewed well but undersold by all accounts and its price is about to start tanking

all my gaming time these days is going towards fallout new vegas, and then probably dead rising 2, but i'll keep an eye out for this

I played the demo. Looked fun but not really my thing.

totally totally totally loved the demo, waiting for a Gamestop gift card I won at work to get to my house so I can go buy it for realz. IDK if I'd put it above Bayonetta on the Best Score Attack Games of 2010 list, though it's at least as good as Sin & Punishment 2.

This is why I'm not playing it. Perfect formula for unappealing to what I want to play.

it's only "tactical" in the sense that you can use cover; it is still v. much a "run around and make everything blow up in the craziest fashion imaginable" game. also if the demo is any indication the AI for your teammates is stunningly nonretarded for once.

of course if your beef is with the latter half of that sentence then THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS

I'd watch someone play Bayonetta or Vanquish but I don't enjoy playing them, at least based on the demos. I don't enjoy shooters (1st or 3rd) or beat-em-ups much in my dotage.

this game is good but Bayonetta trounces it IMO

still haven't gone through bayonetta properly

vanquish is genuinely brilliant but I will say I'm glad I waited for it to drop in price: I know much is made of the game's vaunted replayability but I was surprised the main campaign only clocked in at 4 and a half hours. no unlockables either, which this game is crying out for even just some cheats, badass guns and suit upgrades (even if just cosmetic). online co-op would be awesome too

maybe if we see a vanquish II.... : /

yes and sort of. it is literally the exact opposite of the Yakuza games (i.e. the more time you spend soaking in its ambiance and mechanics, the less you will enjoy it) but it is DEFINITELY possible to enjoy the living shit out of it.
