Childrens' Music: S/D

We have one children's CD for my lil one that I find to be quite good: Pete Seeger's Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Fishes Little and Big Animal Folk Songs. I've already learned a few songs off it to play for K. I want more stuff like this, although preferably not more Pete Seeger, because as much as I like him something about his voice makes my brain turn to mush if I listen for more than 20 minutes.

i've never listened to medeski martin & wood's other stuff but their kids album "let's go everywhere" is pretty fun

also just fyi but in like three posts someone is going to be like "YOU DON'T NEED KIDS MUSIC, I PLAY MY KIDS PENDERECKI AND MERZBOW AND THEY LOVE IT!!!"

my daughter pretty much only likes songs from yo gabba gabba, the collected works of elizabeth mitchell (from ida, who has several albums of mellow folky kids music that are all pretty tolerable), and the kids album my wife and i recorded for her before she was born

Sure, and I play my baby joni mitchell and astrud gilberto and wayne shorter and all kinds of other stuff, but I'd like songs with simple, age-appropriate words and singable melodies too.

i'm just being snotty because i'm jealous that other people's kids will tolerate grown-up music, evie's just like "no, i don't like it. i don't like it. i don't like this song" until i turn it off.

when I was a kid I actually hated most kids music, especially stuff like Raffi. I think I was very sensitive about feeling talked-down-to.

The Songs for the Young at Heart compilation put out by a couple of guys from Tindersticks a few years ago is excellent. Includes a fine version of "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Bonnie Prince Billy.
