as I said on Ned's FB, one of my only acts of booking a band that wasn't my own was getting charles atlas to open for cynthia at the bottom of the hill in SF. She hadn't played SF ... maybe ever? I figured it would be well attended (this was just around when her last/second album came out). It was the night before halloween, maybe in 2002 or 2001. No-one came. Like, NO-ONE; it was me, CA, Cynthia, Tim Green, and whoever else was backing her up. Nevertheless, that show was great and I'm really glad I got to see her. Why she did not have a much bigger following is beyond me.

I can't think of two albums that were more important to me than those two. genuinely sad.

I was still hoping this would turn out not to be true but there it is on Pitchfork.
Is it really nearly ten years since "Sound Restores Young Men"? It doesn't feel like it.
RIP.

A co-worker played Untitled shortly after it came out. After the first line, I had to have it. We were out of stock, so I walked down the street and bought it from a competitor.

not to encourage rampant speculation but I can imagine some causes of death that a family would choose to keep private

her wikipedia page mentions she suffered from epilepsy and elsewhere it said causes unknown so I'm going to guess it was medical issue.
