Been grooving to the Nuggets and Nuggets II box sets lately. If you could add just one more disc to each, what'd be on them?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 20 February 2012 00:48 (twelve years ago) link

'yesterday we laughed' by the cirkit on I and 'storm on way' by complex on II

I know there's a Dovers track already on the U.S. volume, but I really like their last single, "She's Not Just Anybody." Also really fond of "If You Still Want Me" by the Four Fifths.

timellison, Monday, 20 February 2012 02:01 (twelve years ago) link

I only own one Nuggets comp so I'm not sure if any of these have been featured but assuming they havent:

The Buzz - Holding Me Down
Equals - I Can See
Shadows of Knight - Shake
The Smoke - My Friend Jack
Ugly Ducklings - Just in Case You Wonder
Unrelated Segments - Where You Gonna Go?

They also did a children of the nuggets comp that cover up till 1995. Maybe doing a 'grandchildren of the nuggets' featuring songs 1995-2011 could work to. There have been thousands of amazing songs in the psych-garage genres in the past 20 years.

you're holding me down is fantastic and all but it feels like it has had the fuck compiled out of it tbqh

Now that Abkco let out the Cameo/Parkway stuff, ? & The Mysterions and early Bob Seger.

Truth told, you could probably cull the highlights from the 7 "Garage Beat 66" albums for disc five of the US box.

Blast Off 1970 - The Gremlins

Trip Maker, Monday, 20 February 2012 05:49 (twelve years ago) link

Is I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Moving Sidewalks on any of them? If not, that' a doozy.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 20 February 2012 05:56 (twelve years ago) link

Is that even on the fucking ZZ Top box set? There are a couple Movin Sidewalks tracks but I don't think that's one. I can understand why, I guess.

Trip Maker, Monday, 20 February 2012 06:03 (twelve years ago) link

Everything on Pebbles Vol. 3 that isn't already on the box.

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 February 2012 08:01 (twelve years ago) link

When you say disc do you mean track or 22 track disc?
Maybe some Fallen Angels, Mystic Tide or pre-KOTJ MC5. Welcome To The Void by Morgen, something from the Dragonfly lp and if you could include anything Canadian some Plastic Cloud or Bent Wind.

Wish they'd do a Detroit volume in the Nuggets series that's so far done San Francisco as Love Is The Song We Sing and LA as Where the Action Is.
Maybe a Texas one too.

Stevolende, Monday, 20 February 2012 09:01 (twelve years ago) link

C J Smith by Knights Bridge - as heard on one of the Texas Flashback comps - sounds like wire!

Ward Fowler, Monday, 20 February 2012 09:04 (twelve years ago) link

The Electras' version of Action Woman.

Could you offer up a tracklist of these?

I know this album hold a special place in your heart but I've spun it and not EVERYTHING deserves the honor.

When this thread winds down I'll try compiling the suggestions and see what works!

Stereo Shoestring - On the Road South
Velvet Illusion - Velvet Illusion

I was gonna say On the Road South, but Defecting Grey really deserves it.
As far as American stuff goes, its hard for me to make suggestions just cuz there have been so many comps that have scraped this particular barrel. Nuggets II suffers in that it's supposed to cover the UK..and THE REST OF THE WORLD. Impossible!

So, yeah, my suggestion of "Blast off 1970" is meant for a Nuggets II disc 5.

So it looks like there's a 'new' expanded Nuggets coming: https://livinglifefearless.co/2023/news/lenny-kayes-iconic-nuggets-compilation-gets-a-new-box-set/

Anyone found a tracklisting yet? Very curious to see what Lenny was thinking of for Vol 2.

i mentioned it in the deluxe editions thread, albeit only the news that it had been put back - he did some press for it last year but...

Of the 43 tracks on LPs 3-5, 19 are on the Nuggets box and 1 is on the Nuggets II box.

in a post-pebbles, post-boulders, post-highs and lows world, do we really need a "new" nuggets?
