it's kizomba. a kind of music from Angola. very popular here in Portugal, especially among african emigrants/descendants.
(usually, it's not so synth-heavy as this song)

^^ kizomba's somewhat a mixture of semba and zouk. eduardo paim is considered on the creators of the genre. on top of my head, i recall don kikas, heavy-c (he produced that anselmo ralph record) or neuza as some other relevant artists.
― rusty_allen, Friday, 20 January 2012 15:42 (twelve years ago) link
whiney learns all the wrong lessons from shit like that xp
― I Love Pedantry (D-40), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:43 (twelve years ago) link
that last song i posted was produced by kaysha who appears to have done an album with killah priest (!? lmao)
― I Love Pedantry (D-40), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:44 (twelve years ago) link
kizomba records are pretty easy to find here in portugal. especially comps. (for cheap prices at flea markets and all). if you want, i may rip some of them and upload...

is it ok to leave the download link in here? or is it better to pm?
― rusty_allen, Friday, 20 January 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link
im guessing that depends how official those mixes are idk
― I Love Pedantry (D-40), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link
i understand the confusion that prompted whiney's question, because diplo is an american DJ who's become somewhat famous for promoting regional and international forms of club music to american music consumers who might not otherwise be familiar with them. he's pretty obscure, though, so i'm not surprised you haven't heard of him.
― Little GTFO (contenderizer), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:55 (twelve years ago) link
i didnt say i hadnt heard of him, its just that, you know, its completely irrelevant to this thread & 2012 in general
― I Love Pedantry (D-40), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link
diplo heroically tried to get moombahton out there to the people last year, but i don't think it worked. i salute his efforts though. i love that stuff.
― scott seward, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:03 (twelve years ago) link
hm, i guess it won't be a problem, then :

^^ this is a pretty recent mix i found. at least 4 of the tracks in there are pretty good, iirc.
i mostly listen to this stuff at parties organized by the large african community here in portugal, where it's mixed with semba and kuduro (i personally prefer the later). they happen quite frequently (most of the times secretly / illegaly).
― rusty_allen, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:05 (twelve years ago) link
speaking of which, is there a kuduro-related thread in here? i don't remember it being talked about in the rolling african music thread...i might be wrong, tho.
― rusty_allen, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:07 (twelve years ago) link
xp : the most popular mixes are called '100% kizomba'. they include most of the hits. for example, this was huge here (i don't like it, tho) :

some of this stuff sounds a little fruity in that distinctly balearic way

deej, did you listen to that nguzunguzu mix last year?

I was inspired to see what was on spotify and I recognized the first song, just not in this form. This song gets around. I first knew it as a salsa song ("Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos") played clubs regularly, but it's originally an Italian pop song.
Not saying this is the best or anything (seems to be from the most extremely slick end of this stuff?). Great tune though:

there have mostly been feeble cries for help from clueless people like me. there was a short-lived thread: Rolling African Dance / Urban Music Thread, but that only touched on SA house stuff.
― rob, Friday, 20 January 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link
^^ so, should we make that thread the place for it?
when i have some more time i'll post some kuduro/funana stuff, but for the time being, this just came out and it's amazing : http://soundcloud.com/principepromos/p001-b1-dj-marfox-mitologia
― rusty_allen, Friday, 20 January 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, revive that thread! I've posted a couple of random things on the rolling World thread, but I think that Dance thread might appeal to a slightly different constituency. that clip^^ is great
