here it is is more or less steal part one but was a joint venture between ryko and tdk (the cd was a premium given away with tdk purchases, and in a weird bit of prescience back in the cassette-only age of mass-market blank media, they gave it the cute subtitle cdk vol. 1).
i can't imagine any major company in 2005 giving away a cd with people as intellectually disruptive as keith levene, frank zappa, the residents, and devo (excepting their biggest hit). bernie krause even has a track here! okay sure there's some adult-alternative boomer snooze too (nanci griffith's lot in life is to be on corporate boomer-snooze compilations, along with token africans like poto duodongo). what i don't get is how, with ryko pushing all this relatively brazen obscurantism (it was 1988, for fuck's sake) on an unsuspecting public, they felt it was important to include the jimi hendrix experience's "fire" (???), and as the last track no less, right after the e-z listening disc version of devo's "jerkin' back and forth." guess they gotta reel the dads in somehow.
