If I love "the Valleys" by Electrelane what else would I love?

I need some recommendations. I Love the choral , vaguely religious, folksy, white gospel element of that song. Anyone know it? Anyone have some recommendations?

Awfully sorry, but I'd like to revive this. Throwing aside the alt-rock side of things for a moment, what would you recommend in the way of (presumably) contemporary choral music for those who know of no more comfortingly rousing start to the day than this song?

I'm ashamed to say that I wouldn't know where to begin.

bjork's work with the inuit choral groups... not gospel, but choir oriented. something about, say, the live version of "pagan poetry" brings that to mind.

the last nick cave album, "abattoir blues/lyre of orpheus" featured some killer gospel choir work.

"this lamb sells condos" off the new final fantasy album.

of montreal in general features spectacular harmonies.

the singalong chorus from sufjan's "chicago".

i can think of more later, but that's a start. at least for recent stuff.

Ah, lovely lovely Fifth Dimension.. I do love them as well as The Valleys, so good call. But not the Aquarius song, which is just plain horrid. I think Wedding Bell Blues is my favourite. I also like the fact that they have a song called Too Poor To Die - although it's also too poor to play.

Anyway, enough of them, because we were talking about Electrelane - or rather, we were trying not to, because The Valleys makes me much more inclined to buy a Chicago A Capella album than another one by them.

agree completely. they're a great band, and it's a great record overall, by far their best, but that song is just...THAT SONG. once in a lifetime thing.
