Neither of them "white gospel" oriented, but you might like 'em.

the last nick cave album, "abattoir blues/lyre of orpheus" featured some killer gospel choir work.
"this lamb sells condos" off the new final fantasy album.
of montreal in general features spectacular harmonies.
the singalong chorus from sufjan's "chicago".
i can think of more later, but that's a start. at least for recent stuff.

Anyway, enough of them, because we were talking about Electrelane - or rather, we were trying not to, because The Valleys makes me much more inclined to buy a Chicago A Capella album than another one by them.
Some interesting suggestions here - thanks. Will report back. iLiKETRAiNS first, I think. Then György Ligeti.

― Choc. Clusterman (contenderizer), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 07:32 (1 year ago) Permalink
There's really nothing else quite like it, and nothing else this band ever released matches it. Or almost any other band, really.
― Turangalila, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 07:34 (1 year ago) Permalink
agree completely. they're a great band, and it's a great record overall, by far their best, but that song is just...THAT SONG. once in a lifetime thing.

Everytime I listen to Electrelane, I really question why I need to listen to anything else. ever.
especially this song.

yeah but this song is an anomaly. i love it to bits and i love electrelane, but for different reasons.
