What Ricky said, plus MIA and Roots Manuva are playing Brixton Academy on March 4 as well so it could well be the best night ever.
― The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:03 (8 years ago) Permalink
villalobos at fabric this saturday will be good (well, the last couple of hours of his set were amazing last time, anyway) but i'm giving it a miss as there's no-one else playing that i'm keen to see.
― toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 08:52 (8 years ago) Permalink
I can't do the 4th, although MIA + Manuva + whoever they wheel out for Run The Road (almost certainly Kano I'd imagine) would be a pretty awesome run.
I am too much of a wuss to cope with proper clubbing on a school night, sadly, so this Thursday is out for me.

I still haven't been able to get into Get Physical properly bar the odd tune or two, but hopefully a night actually dancing to the stuff will sort that out.
Argh Toby, are you aware how much poorer and more exhausted this thread is going to make me in the coming months?

the key is in weird railyard no-man's-land around the station, the kind of area in which you're supposed to walk in groups.
xpost - yes, i'd love some r&b dancing. whatever patience i had for techno has pretty much vanished.

"I mean R&B like uhhh I guess chart R&B. plus maybe a little hip-hop. OR stuff like the Supremes. any R&B really! any place where they play Ciara, too. -- The Lex"
People may scoff, but Popstarz is totally where you should go. The bottom floor is sticky, but it plays all the above. And then you can escape to Pop heaven on the top floor, make out with someone on the balcony and then dance to schmindie on the middle floor when you're so drunk you don't care that they're playing Razorlight.

I'm a little sceptical of this live band thing though. The band at Roots Manuva veered dangerously close to funk rock territory at times on Friday and I imagine this being even less appropriate for grime. Especially Lethal B.
Great lineup though.

But yesterday I got the feeling that Finnish girl who sat next to me in the class (and thus prevented me and the Icelandic girl winding up near each other) and began chatting up with me might harbour some sort of interest in me, which makes the situation even more complicated.
if she's checking you out while in class, chances are she thinks you're cute as well, but is also being shy.
I thought of this at first, but my low self-esteem said to me, "She's super-pretty while you're not exactly cute yourself, she couldn't possibly be interested in you.". Of course, the Icelandic girl might think exactly the same. She certainly isn't pretty in the conventional way, nor even in the Björkish elfin-kinda-way, I think what drew my attention to her is that her appearance escapes all the categories I can think of.
Alba, what is the "bend and snap" technique? And I still don't know what Vitalic is either...
-- Tuomas (tuomas.alh...), October 20th, 2004 11:09 AM.
Vitalic is Ronan's Viagra.
-- B.A.R.M.S. (b4rim4_...), October 20th, 2004 11:12 AM.
Matt wants some but he don't get none.
Okay, a quick googling reveals that Vitalic is some sort of skin cream. But what does it have to do with partying?
-- Tuomas (tuomas.alh...), October 20th, 2004 11:16 AM.
You spread it everywhere and get down.

In other words, for smooth lines, use Vitalic.

Agoria were a proper oldskool-fest, weren't they? What with LFO, Strings of Life, that big Trans Europe Express thing and whatever that trancey record was that Rob went mental over. Very nice indeed.
And for the first time ever I've made it home awake on the night bus two nights running.
― Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 1 May 2005 09:29 (8 years ago) Permalink
Poor Vitalic, and poor us :(
such a pity, as until that point it was pretty ace as Matt said, but after the announcement the vibe died and the music got progressively shit (Marilyn Manson, fuck's sake).
― The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 1 May 2005 09:53 (8 years ago) Permalink
I assume we left after The Hacker, cos he finished on Flesh & Bone (well, a much messed up version of it anyway...). Great night though, from the sounds of it we left for bagels at the right time!
Can't believe his laptop was nicked, poor bloke.

(xpost - Agoria were both before and after the Hacker. There was a lot of fannying around onstage when Le Onzieme Marche was played and that might have been when the laptop went missing, I think).

we tried to dance too but I couldn't get into it, my mind was like one big :(
Initially they seemed to be doing a good job in a horrible situation but it really deteriorated I thought - Marilyn Manson's cover of 'Personal Jesus' was just a total nadir.
We listened to the Vitalic album at the house party, it was scant consolation.

Kittin is the best human being ever, yes; I really enjoyed Jamie (he is v cute - I forgive one trick ponies if they look like him, though he should have sung more). I looked in on Virus Syndicate for a bit, I'd been really looking forward to them but a) there were only about ten people in Room 2 and the atmosphere was dead, b) aforementioned drama aargh. François K was amazing.

there's a grime gig on sep 16 (clashes with poptimism unfortunately) at, er, the vice pub. jme, skepta and big h are lined up.

The Rex mix is king - I always let it play through. Still doubt I'm showing on Friday as I'm sure to overexert myself rock'n'roll dancing in Fulham.

It's like the DJs I've never seen and really want to versus the one I know is brilliant.

Fabric was more rammed than I have ever ever seen it before and half the people downstairs seemed to be wide-eyed indie kids there for the first time and petrified of all the people asking them for pills. I can't imagine how little room there would have been in the main room, even the balcony was fairly packed!
I want to know who was playing in room 2 (? - the one where Vitalic wasn't) last, we went there after 2manydjs got too indie and it was insanely banging and fucked with my head a bit.
Photos might emerge at some point...

I want to come for definite, and can get the time off, and I'm mostly feeling better, but not 100 percent and was kind of thinking that it might be wise to wait until I am really feeling absolutely better before going out for a long night like it will be.

yeah, it did stick an extra 4 quid or so on, which was pretty annoying. not sure if you get to queue-jump, but the ticket claims guaranteed entry if you turn up by one, and i like the idea of being able to show up at half 12 rather than queue at 11, esp as the late end means i'd rather not start until 1, anyway. also it was a way of making myself go, rather than wimp out at the last minute.

green velvet was the best thing ever basically. esp, it has to be said, the 2nd half (after lex and cis went to see luciano) - flash, war on the saints, la la land and the lasers. i will say more about this tomorrow when i can make sense of it.
booka shade - live drumming which was actually good!

I was too tired to do anything yesterday at all. I tried to go to Sainsbury's to get some food but was so hassled by the queues I decided to go home again. All of ten minute walk usually, but it took me half an hour on account of having to sit down in Barnards Park for fifteen minutes to recover my strength. After that, there was no way I was going to come out.

i loved lunar park, i'm still trying to marshal my thoughts into coherence because it did my head in a bit - i think it's possibly my favourite ellis work (and i LOVE his stuff generally esp glamorama). the astonishingly narcissistic reality/fiction elision actually works really well though i think the most important element of the book might be the stephen king influence. oh and the last couple of pages are astonishing.

it soudns stupid but i just sort of resent the fact that to hear music i so completely enjoy, with such incredible sound, is just such an unpleasant place to be. i often look at people in fabric and only about 20% of people even seem to be smiling, or look like they are having fun. the rest are caught up in a maelstrom of pushing past, squeezing in, or just wandering around looking lost and defeated.
too many people last night i know, and it probably wouldnt be like that next time, but i just cant be bothered. everyone i know hates fabric, and i was the last cheerleader for it, i sort of liked the inhumanity of it, the machine like, unpleasant atmoshpere on the door and queuing systems, etc. but i think ive changed sides.
there isnt a solution really, i dont really think that fabric are to blame, if you have people queuing to get in at 4.30 having been there for 3 hours, then you are going to try and get them in for 15 pound a head. but i dont really want to be part of it.
sorry i didnt meet you toby, i left early at about 2.30, partly cos i was knackered from driving down, partly due to logistics with friends still in the queue. i appreciate that had i been i na better state i might have been better equipped to handle the crowds in the main room, but i still sort of feel "how on earth DO you have fun when all night, non stop, people are pushing past you one way or the other?", constant movement, not dancing, but just travel. i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.
apparently matthew dear was firing, and i cant believe villalobos played that skream tune.
good to meet you marianna, albeit briefly. sorry it was a bit random to accost you in the middle of the busiest flow of people, but i thought i should say hello at least!

i have to say that i feel the same way, except i think i'm prepared to give it a few more goes - the fact that it's not much more than 20mins walk from home makes it easier to bear, and i do like that not having to queue if you have a ticket makes it easy to get in.
i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.
yeah, same here. plus i just don't feel comfortable closing my eyes for longer than about 30 secs.
moral is: get there super super late. 4/5 maybe i guess. but im just too tired to handle that really.
yeah, i was thinking that, too. it doesn't sound like that would have worked that well on saturday, though. i guess i could go to bed at like 9pm on a saturday, set an alarm for 4, get up, go down to fabric for a few hours... but do they even go on past 7 most times?
i wonder if people would pay more to get in if they lowered the numbers? i certainly would.
also, did anyone go to the aftershow on sunday? i've never been to one - maybe i should try getting some sleep on a saturday night and then going out on a sunday afternoon sometime?

Matt, I thought that was the Killers at first! Shows how much I'm down with today's modern indie music. Even if I was praising the new Arab Strap album in the pub beforehand.
Must remember to book the 7th off work tomorrow. That's going to be quite a big week, what with Bangface on the Friday as well.

we're going to have fabric go on until 9am on saturday night / sunday morning so make sure you bring dancing shoes, then....
we're having another big fuck off afterparty just like the we had back in November just for the sake of it as it would be bloody rude not to wouldn't it.
so then, on sunday from midday we're taking over the T-bar until midnight Very Happy
musical entertainment will be provided by any of the DJs that are still standing from Saturday!
which does sound good. but i suspect that dancing won't be what i feel like on sunday afternoon.

Margaret Dygas is great. Plays some awesome minimal stuff. There is an excellent mix of hers on minimallondon, in the mixtapes section.
I'll be at Fabric on Saturday night, after party for a bit maybe, and T-Bar on Monday definately.
T-Bar has been getting really busy. Last Stink for DJ Koze was a little bit like DC-10, still cheering and up for it at 2am on a school night. Which is fun.
Then there is James Holden at T-Bar on Thursday. Big week. Fun.

Fabric wasnt as rammed as it has been. All in all fairly manageable. They also extended the hours and it was open till 9.30am. When I left at 8, Ricardo and Zip were playing back to back, dancefloor had space to move and upstairs was half full.
Afterparty at T-Bar was excellent too. Ricardo played back to back with Kiki / Matt John / Zip and Craig Richards. Lots of random messiness but quite funny.
Stink tomorrow will likely go till 2. Last Stink went till 3-3.30, but I think theyve been wrapping up a bit earlier. Anyway should be fun. Margaret Dygas mix is available at: http://www.minimallondon.com/margaret_dygas/mixtapes/margaret_dygasMIXTAPE_underl_nemix.zip

the key is demonstrably the worst club in london, or the worst one i have been too. jeff samuel was really good but it was like i was clubbing in watford. also, far too expensive. i dont mind expensive as long as i dont feel like cattle and the club is glamourous to back it up. canvas feels worth it, the key is pretty foul.

What is the name of that tiny club that's actually a converted underground public toilet on Commercial Street? It's fantastic! We stumbled in there last night intrigued by the neon-lit bus-shelter entrance and the enormous bassline coming through the floor.
Walked in for free and Tomas Andersson's Copy Cat was just kicking in. For the next two hours it was amazing - people went mental to the last minute of Silent Shout and I finally got to hear Dextro's Do You Need Help out. And at least five absolute stormers I will be desperate to identify for the next few weeks. Sometimes, the bright lights and cute girls turn up when you least expect them :)
I don't ever want this thread to end. I want it go on, as an ever-present reminder of the good times.

they chucked everyone out just before noon, and we went up to a pub on farringdon road, the eagle, i think, and had a couple of pints in there. i think there were 7 of us left at this point. about 130pm two people left in search of some rave in docklands, i'd had enough by then and called it quits and got the bus home. went to bed about 3, literally holding my head in my hands. woke up at midnight, and ate a pear yoghurt:)
today i feel fine!
one of the people that got subsumed into our waif collective, is, i think, a friend of our own stirmonster, and our not own johnny.
i liked that rancho relaxo tune lex

Rollcall for Braxe? I know we have Canvas splitters but should we all meet in the same pub beforehand? Are there any decent boozers in the area at all?

geeta my recommendation is that you should come! i dont really have a more convincing argument than that tho.
midnight def isnt too late to come tho. might be worth getting a ticket before, or getting someone to buy one for you, or getting on the guestlist

As for preclubpub, the King Charles I on Northdown Street has always looked like a decent if small boozer, but I've never actually been in there. The Driver on Cally Road looks tolerable as well.

Then Cagedbaby came on and killed the voibe almost immediately - total loss of focus, bad Bloc Party remixes and so forth. There was some good Get Physical type stuff on in the other room, but it was empty, except for the bit when those breakdancing dudes were in there.
So it kind of sucked - so we left, tried to get into Canvas and failed, but they let us back into the Key for free so it was alright. And the last hour or so of Cagedbaby was great - Sky Was Pink, Rej, Zdarlight and loads of other stuff I didn't know. Yay.

It was a really good vibe, you could tell the Justice tracks because they have that same rough and rocky chords. Busy P was funny holding up sleeves and the table lamp.
Was Sebastian Tellier behind the decks? And is Tellier, the same person as DJ Sebastian? And final question, does Ozio look like Tellier?
Good to meet Alex, I didn't see anyone else. Anyone going to see Tellier at the Spitz tomorrow night?

man i had a big big night. m,ade upfor a poor friday by a million times. was feeling all the tunes up until cagedbaby. sorry i slunk off but to be honest i was fucked and had to at least sit down. managed to catch a bus home at 5.30 so it wasnt too harsh.
i didnt know any of the tunes except "sweat on the walls" and "oh superman" remix and they all totally slayed me.
gareth, players paradise appears to be a label. cant remember what that tune sounded like, but it might be martinez "sunbeams". or maybe they played that as well.
theres a tune where ipoked my head roudn the dj booth and all i saw was "switch" and "control records" but i dont know whether it was a switch tune or not. it seemed pretty familiar but i think i must have got the wrong end of the stick.
the key is totally ok by me anyways now... the bar staff! swoonalso, cassy on 26th May!!!!

tonight padded cell were alright. didnt sound too live. one guy was working a sequencer which looked like ableton while richard stern operated a keyboard. their tunes are excellent, but herbal really has no vibe, so the crowd was a bit flat.
fabric wasnt as full as normal. when i got down optimo had room two working well, mixing on of the new minus tracks with la la land, and dropping the carl craig mix of revelee which sounds on that system. only other act i really heard was patrick chadronnet, his main tune rocked, and the others also.

Lindstrom & Prinz Thomas surprised me as well. Much chunkier sound than I was expecting and it left me going "why didn't the album sound like that?" Unfortunately they ended an hour earlier than they were scheduled to, we were in the other room at the time and didn't get to see whether they played I Feel Space. Gah.
Weirdest moment of the night = Erol playing a set of big chunky rocky electro (Justice and Vitalic and lots of stuff that sounded like them) only to drop Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name in the middle of it. The place went fucking mental.
― Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 21 May 2006 13:54 (7 years ago) Permalink
i was totally feeling lindstrom - all those dirty funk bass grooves topped off by music box stylings at the exact mid-point of tweeness and ket-blankness. unfortunately anna-marie was hating it, but the other room was ace anyway (APART FROM ratm, have you NO SHAME!).
ellen allien was ridiculously beautiful - i couldn't keep my eyes off her! her white halter-neck top was gorgeous, and her hair looked fab too. she looked like she was having a lot of fun, esp when she started to sing along to her own vocals.

Terms like "spastic disco", "elastic breaks", even "wonky techno" have been thrown about when it comes to describing Erik Wiegand's Errorsmith project. With only a handful of releases and even less live visibility, this is a rare treat for anyone interested in the more experimental end of dancefloor rhythms. He'll be treating us to an improvised three-hour Ableton Live set that'll see dancehall / dubstep / disco as well as his own twisted creations being thrown into a heady mix. Just bear in mind that he comes from Berlin's revered Basic Channel family of artists and you'll be fine. Sonic perfection stretched to breaking point.NB: call 07977.420.999 / 07989.571.552 or email info@littletony.net for more info.

I do keep saying this but, I so wish these kind of line-ups (not just Soviet organised) would include a tiny bit of something lighter on the side (okay maybe this would be Arovane and Cursor Minor here?), it doesn't have to be a completely lame 'chill-out' room, just a little levity. 50% of that line up makes me smile, but the other 50% of yet more possible gnarliness just makes me frown. Anyway, not meaning to judge from afar just annoyed that I don't feel able to really justify a trip to London town for this.

Yes to Ellen Allien. Not sure about that Soulwax Weekender thing because, even though I don't know where it is, it just screams 'hellishly crowded' to me.

ellen was so so amazing as well.
what was that café which appeared across the road just as we needed it?! that place was exactly what i was craving. BEER AND TEA ALL MORNING.
― The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:00 (6 years ago) Permalink
Partly because Ellen was playing live and Rex (I think) only played his own records and remixes, there was a general feeling of being more like a fantastic gig than a club night in its own right. But awesome nonetheless.
Also, for some reason I just didn't expect to hear Heartbeats, it hadn't even occurred to me he might play it, so it was just this ridiculous joyful moment.
That was probably the most welcome cup of tea of my life. So, Carl Craig at The End in two weeks time, then?
― Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:10 (6 years ago) Permalink
I thought everyone that wasn't Ellen or Rex was a bit meh really. i actually thought kinda the opposite
i thought rex was absolutely terrible. i'd never heard him before, and i hope i never hear him again. it sounded like sonic the hedgehog
ellen allien was better, but i found her very one dimensional, quite static and square, would have liked something more snakey. id never heard her before either really,
the stuff much earlier on was the best, in the end. konrad black i guess,
sheperding lex back home was quite a feat, he kept staggering off in the wrong direction, refused to believe that kings cross wasnt clerkenwell, though my street was tottenham court road, and only noticed we had actually got home after we had been home for 10 minutes
i woke up at 4pm and said "the chestnuts. give them to me"
― -- (688), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:19 (6 years ago) Permalink
the best moment was when anna-marie and i thought 'way out' was about to end, and we looked at each other and said "can this song never ever ever end and just go on forever" and ellen must have heard us because the beat kicked in again and it went on forever!
ellen prowling around the stage = hott.
'i look into mid-air' = best song ever. in what universe is sounding like sonic the hedgehog bad!

quick, where can i take my aussie friend for some "underground" clubbing action tonight? last year we went to some random drum n bassy night at some dodgy looking club in elephant, but it was advertised in time out and it was full of skinny white indie kids so that's the level of "underground" we're talking really.

in my month here i haven't managed to get any dancing done because i haven't met anyone particularly into 'clubbing' and even if they were they all live miles away - so what are people's experiences of going out alone in london? a dumb question i know as i won't know how it'll work out for me until i try it, but i guess i'm looking for some kind of vague reassurance that it's a reasonable thing to do.

Ivr been in london for a month and have gone out dancing three times no, plus a keith fullerton whitman show (in fact, I'm writing this on my way home from seeing kassem mosse). All of these have been slone, albeit never ambitious later than four type expeditions. Im very used to going out alone, though.

Ugh, phone typos.anyways, these were at plastic people and camp near old st. which have been comvenient bc. They're right by the bus stop that goes right to my place. I've been meaning to branch out (ie fabric, corsica studios) but I think I might still be a bit apprehensive about new places. Plus good events are so expensive.

Wow, reading this thread is such a nostalgia trip, so many great nights.
Raving is an occasional treat rather than a regular thing these days but will be going to the Unabombers/Lowlife party at Corsica Studios next weekend. I basically only ever go to Corsica these days, but that's alright as it's basically the best venue in London.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:37 (1 year ago) Permalink
I'd like you to say KFW was terrible, I was planning on going and then only realised that today was the day at 11pm.
(although thanks EDB, yours is the kind of vague reassurance I feel I need before venturing out myself! Also helped by the fact that after well over a month of trying I finally have a smartphone and need never fear getting lost again [unless I lose the phone itself].)
― sunn :o))) (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:39 (1 year ago) Permalink
I'm sort of semi-tempted to go to Fabric in the middle of the afternoon today, just because we can.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:41 (1 year ago) Permalink
The KFW show was quite good, though the sets were all too short. Keith played for like 30-40 minutes. The other sets were like 20 minutes (what the hell is up with that?). I might be a bit biased, though, since I found a 10 pound bill on the floor that night.
Good to know about Corsica. Considering that Colony/Plex Suregeon, Traversable Wormhole, etc. thing, which would make me grateful if I am able to walk out of that party alive.
Heard from an unreliable source that Fabric is disappointing, but I want to see for myself. Thinking the upcoming Tectonnic night (scuba, addison groove, pinch) might be a good induction.
That and the *free* bicep night is basically what I've been working around.

if you haven't been to fabric you probably should. just to experience it. i've had some great nights there but these days i only go about once a year (and have already been this year so i doubt i'll be back).
always used to say i'd turn up at fabric at breakfast time/middle of the day but that never seems such a good idea when you wake up fresh and sober and it's a nice day outside. why on earth would i want to go inside fabric on a day like today?
i plan to rave a bit more this autumn, the past few months have been ridic busy and i haven't had the time for anything. low life will be a good start.

I actually broke my dance duck last night with a little lol hipster house surrounding Nite Jewel at the Shacklewell Arms. It was a bit grim and deadening but such is the nature of that specific situation I guess - if I can do it there I can do it anywhere.
Might go along to Lowlife, if the conference I'm at that day doesn't take too much out of me. Don't really know what to expect and as good as the blurb is ( http://www.corsicastudios.com/index.php/october-2011/493-low-life-october-29th ) it isn't telling me an awful lot, but the collective enthusiasm here sells it enough.
― sunn :o))) (Merdeyeux), Monday, 24 October 2011 00:06 (1 year ago) Permalink
Hooo... That was a fun 14 hours at Fabric. And yes, Moodymann did play Nirvana! (seconds after I walked into the room and passed someone wearing a Nirvana shirt. It was a moment of weird cognitive dissonance: the mixture of seeing a reference to something and hearing it - as if your mind were creating some strange sensory cross-referentiality - and the even more strange fact of seeing moodymann, of all people, playing it. For a moment everything felt as if it was either no longer, or way too, real).

low life will sell out,get tickets. it's run by the people behind djhistory.com, has a bit more of a grown up vibe, it's ace, you should def get to one.
can't recommend beauty and the beat enough, it's a shame it's not bring your own booze/smoking indoors/just do what you want anymore. they have the best club soundsystem i've ever heard. warm and wonderful sounding. the same system david mancuso uses for his loft parties (which are also a fun evening out!) eclectic in a good way, always make a new friend when i go :)

Hitchin is quite nice - a bit like Stoke Newington or somewhere like that - not scary. There are a couple of townie clubs you can dance to, ranging from meat-market hell to acceptable r'n'b/dance. I put on my own nights at a local venue, but it's mostly gig-based with a few DJs when really I'd love to be able to do a medium-sized specialist DJ night etc... Would've been able to do something like that 10 years ago, but smoking ban/noise complaints/council restrictions have quashed a lot of the better venues and pubs.
― dog latin, Monday, 24 October 2011 15:01 (1 year ago) Permalink
That venue kind of fucks me off. When I saw Ford & Lopatin, I was thinking "This place is smaller than the club I promote in, and I'm sure I'd be able to get a bigger/more responsive crowd than this", but of course because I'm not promoting in a big town agencies and bands just aren't interested in visiting. I'm sure this wasn't the case a few years back when Hitchin venues rivalled places like the Cambridge Corn Exchange for touring bands. In the eighties, Spandau Ballet, Thin Lizzy, the Specials, Squeeze and many others played right next door to where I used to live. Also the Fall recorded one of their best known albums at the same venue.
― dog latin, Monday, 24 October 2011 15:06 (1 year ago) Permalink
I'd be well up for an ILX "FAD", but of course I'd need a bit of notice. Have to give myself a good run up if it involves staying out in London all night and getting the early train home.

In the eighties, Spandau Ballet, Thin Lizzy, the Specials, Squeeze and many others played right next door to where I used to live. Also the Fall recorded one of their best known albums at the same venue.
A lot of act, even British ones, just don't put in that level of legwork any more. Although the acts you named would have been going for a very broad, more-or-less mainstream audience. You're never going to get that with an act like Ford & Lopatin especially if the manager (rightly or wrongly) assumes that 80% of the intended market will be living within a two-mile radius of Dalston.
― Matt DC, Monday, 24 October 2011 15:23 (1 year ago) Permalink
Yeah, I understand the psychology of putting them in London. I'm sure if the price was right I could put anyone I liked on within reason, but of course in London you can get away with charging £10 for a short set by an obscure act because at least a handful of people in London will have heard of them. In Hitchin I have to rely on mine and my organisation's reputation as promoters to put on decent nights. Pleased to say that after several years it's working and people will take risks and turn up.
