What about a thread for ilxors who wish they'd never met any ilxors in person?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 03:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Hi everyone. My name is Gear and I've never met anyone from here in real life.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:00 (nineteen years ago) link

So, I decided to take my work back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 07:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I've only met a couple, but I really didn't mean to - I tried to run away, honest. Everyone's so much shorter in real life, anyway.

Never met anyone from ILX. Some people here I'd like to meet but they're mostly in America from what I can gather. London people seem fine too but the occasional lapses into sniping/ backbiting/ personal attacks have persuaded me to avoid FAPs and the like

Sort of kind of think I should come to one of the club nights - but I've been thinking of doing that since the Club Sussed days. And sometimes think of going to a FAP, but I just think people are going to think "who's that tosser?" so never make it. I'm sure you're all lovely though.

So, no.

Only ever met one ILXOR, Evanston Wade, who doesn't really count as I knew him for 10+ years before he ever posted here. Some day my schedule will coincide with a SF FAP, tho, and then all will be made right...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:17 (nineteen years ago) link

I've never met any ILXors, unless somehow I've met Crudders and forgotten it. There was a New Orleans FAP that I don't think ever happened, and I wouldn't have been able to make it cause I was meeting the girlfriend's family, so I've had a close call, I guess. I ought to be meeting teeny & mr teeny at the end of summer.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I've never (knowingly) met any ILXors in person, except for a couple I knew before I discovered ILX (and who did not introduce me to it).

tza looking forward to meeting you! i hear you are v v pretty!

modestmickey, Saturday, 17 March 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I suppose it depends on what your definition of "is" is. No. Wait. make that your definition of "met".

I was in the same room as Casuistry once, as he gave a public poetry reading. In fact, he aspired to bring and read a poem for every attendee of that reading, so that at one point he actually read 'my' poem to me, not knowing who I was. Afterward he was so thronged by admirers and well-wishers, that I eventually slipped away without introducing myself to him. Did I meet him or not? I would say no. You may disagree.

Aimless, Saturday, 17 March 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't know who told you that, but it is all lies!

don't hold your breath though cause i'm putting off another trip down there as long as i possibly can since i have to go to buffalo multiple times this year.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 March 2007 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

oh damn, where?
august is one of my buffalo trip months u_u

tehresa, Saturday, 17 March 2007 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

if there's an S.C./nearby fap, i'd be interested in going. if i'm welcome, that is. if ethan went it'd probably be a better idea to sit it out.

modestmickey, Saturday, 17 March 2007 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

oh damn, where?

My aunt and uncle live near Charleston, IIRC. I want to say Anderson, actually.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 March 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

lol drama.

tehresa, Saturday, 17 March 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

anderson and charleston are not near each other!

st. andrews is nearer to charleston... anderson is near greenville, where the rents live, which is 'upstate'.

tehresa, Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah, clarity. (This tells you how long ago I was there -- which was, in fact, 1983.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:10 (seventeen years ago) link

there is also andrews, sc (without the saint) but i highly doubt your aunt and uncle live there!

tehresa, Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I have double-checked and it is definitely Anderson, so essentially I'll be in your neck of the woods. PARTY etc.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

oh hay! what dates?

tehresa, Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

The ILXors I know IRL I knew before I or they knew ILX. Otherwise, I haven't met any.

Will try and catch my aunt and uncle sometime this week and plot. Assume early to mid-August, though! Will let you know!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 March 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah gotta be in a wedding in buffalo on the 12th so dates thereabout will not happen for me.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I went to uni with pete b, who rarely posts any more, but apart from that... I've thought of FAPping before, and I don't know why I never have. Maybe next time.

I nearly put this on the "I'm the only ILXor who has not..." thread. I'm glad I didn't.

K1ltim4gh (pronounced /ˌkɪltʃɪˈmɒk/) is said by some to be a possible origin of the quasi-derogatory term (depending on context and use) "culchie", traditionally employed by Dubliners to describe people from rural Ireland, or from any part of Ireland outside Dublin.

this doesn't seem very likely to me

K1ltim4gh (pronounced /ˌkɪltʃɪˈmɒk/) is said by some to be a possible origin of the quasi-derogatory term (depending on context and use) "culchie",

iirc i have been directly involved in every instance of the word 'culchie' on ilx.

and it's always derogatory. we've been trying to take it back but tbh as a group we lack the necessary appreciation of meme appropriation

lol i love ireland. quick story abt the last time i saw him--a few of us were getting drunk in a hotel bar in a converted castle somewhere northwest of galway. noel spots this eighteenish american kid with his family, buys him a couple drinks, and spends the next 90 minutes trying to convince the kid that he might actually be gay.

Disaster - last night in my dream I did meet another ilxor, who dropped by my house. It's best not to say who because he was totally charmless, dismantling my stuff and complaining that we hadn't made him anything to eat, but I had to make nice because I needed him to sign some cheques (which he did eventually, but badly, so I hope the bank don't look too closely). This guy was so moany that my sister painted him a collage of contenders from British party leadership contests (featuring Heseltine as a frog-on-a-throne, John Major in a pink linen shirt, and Gordon Brown replaced by an 'anyone but Brown' billboard) as a sop, which he snatched at but clearly didn't get or was interested in, which really annoyed me cos it was loads of work, and now I've woken up all tense. Also, he started the dream as a dwarf, and ended it looking like a greasy James Corden.

I'm not doing that again.

Can not really figure out Belfast usage of "culchie", have heard it used to mean "students from Tyrone who wear GAA shirts and trash Belfast's notoriously rowdy student housing area on St Patrick's day" and "weedy pseudo-intellectuals all reading their newspapers and novels which don't involve stuff blowing up" and anything in between

as someone from a small market town in a slightly (but not very) rural bit of England I haaate hearing Londoners use words like "provincial" so if that is all it means then I am not for it, but it is a euphonious word I guess

Heard it a few times, from not-awful sources, but nah sounds totally fake-back-derivation to me too, kind of downer because I'd be a-ok with this, wld give me some credentials in the culchie pride movement.

nakhchivan, Saturday, 29 May 2010 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

it's all done solely on income since the celtic tiger tbh

Most of my LOLIRELAND trufax (spides, the stabbiness of Limerick, etc) come from '90s friendships with Father Ted guys and popstars of the Hannon and Cairns variety. Though mostly with the Hannon, this involved asking him whether there were tons of people in his manor with my very very Fermanagh surname.
