I've tried to narrow this down to serious contenders. Let's be honest, the Golden Age of US sitcoms can be defined by the shows that debuted between 1970 and the 1975-76 season. That's why I've not included such later shows as Taxi, WKRP in Cincinnati, or, um, Alice. I've also disqualified Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman because it followed the soap opera format of five episodes per week, therefore apples and oranges.
